Post-COVID syndrome (Long COVID) affects a significant proportion of patients who had COVID-19, including those with initially mild illness. Symptoms can involve multiple organ systems — the lungs, heart, brain, joints, and gut — and may persist for months. Dr. Kakar led research on post-COVID symptom persistence, validated the Hindi version of the International Consensus Criteria for Myalgic Encephalomyelitis in post-COVID patients, and guided several postgraduate theses on COVID-related complications. His published work includes studies on COVID-related hyperglycaemia, antibody response, and post-acute fatigue. Post-COVID care at the clinic involves systematic investigation to exclude treatable causes (pulmonary fibrosis, cardiac dysfunction, anaemia), followed by a tailored rehabilitation plan.
What is post-covid care & long covid?
When should you seek care?
How Dr. Kakar approaches treatment.
A systematic assessment is performed at the first visit — including pulmonary function tests, echocardiography, blood tests (thyroid, iron, inflammatory markers, D-dimer), and assessment of mood and sleep. Based on findings, treatment is individualised: cardiopulmonary rehabilitation for breathlessness, iron or thyroid correction where deficient, anti-inflammatory support for joint symptoms, and graded activity for fatigue. Psychological support is arranged when anxiety or depression is prominent. Follow-up is scheduled to track recovery.
When to see a specialist.
Book a consultation if you remain unwell 4 or more weeks after COVID-19 — especially if fatigue, breathlessness, or cognitive difficulties are affecting your daily life or work. Early evaluation identifies treatable contributing factors and guides appropriate rehabilitation.
